Morfa Dyffryn is the premier
naturist beach in West and North Wales. |
A very unpromising Sunday morning turned into a glorious afternoon at Morfa Dyffryn beach. What better way to spend a naturist day for those lucky enough to live near enough? No crowds either because most people probably decided the weather wasn't worth turning out for.
The turning is off the A496 about half way between Barmouth and Harlech, just south of Dyffryn Ardudwy village. Signposted Traeth/Beach, the road is called Ffordd y Benar. Continue to the end of the road and park in the car park. Walk through the dunes on the marked path and turn right up the beach for about a mile.
Since 2000, a limited stretch of the beach, about 1 kilometre long, has been a naturist beach officially designated by the local council. It is marked with posts at each end. (Please do not tolerate any behaviour that could bring naturists into disrepute.)
There are public toilets at the car park, and on good days often an ice-cream seller.
There is a halt on the scenic Shrewsbury-Machynlleth-Pwllheli railway line not far from the beach.
And after... try tea and scones at the Plas Cafe in Harlech, with a splendid view over the sea and dunes, Harlech Castle and the Snowdon range.
